About StateLine Quartet

As his mind journeyed backward so many years in time, Larry Biggs wondered why God chose to bless him as just a little boy with a love and natural understanding of musical harmony. He dared not boast of himself but could only praise God for such a gift. Even after two of his sons have been called from the quartet to preach the Word, Larry still finds himself surrounded by personable, young men with that same love for harmony, prodigious talent, and a determination to make a difference. The StateLine Quartet, comprised of Larry, his son Tim, his brother Steve, Alan Johnson, and James Cauley are celebrating their 11th year in existence.

Could it be that someday, somewhere, when Jesus Christ returns in all of His glory, StateLine will be found proclaiming His Gospel? Yeah.....that would be another dream come true!.

Since it's inception, StateLine Quartet has sung and ministered at churches and events across several states. Please read on and meet all of the guys.

Larry Biggs (Vocals, Musician)

Larry Biggs has been involved in Southern Gospel Music for most of his life. He began playing a small chord organ at about five years old and then moved on to play an accordion at church, nursing homes, baptismal services at the creek, and such. At twelve years old, he took up bass guitar as well as playing around with the old "flat-top six". At about fourteen years old, he played piano and sang with a group of the Biggs and Briley families called The Halltown Harmoneers. After graduating from Portland High School he studied music at Volunteer State Community College in Gallatin, Tennessee. Since then he has played piano, bass guitar, and some rhythm guitar with a few familiar names like The Bradley Family, The New Sunshine Boys, and Greater Desire. He, along with his three sons, began a work that, over a few years, grew to be StateLine Quartet. Two of those sons, Duane and Andy, have answered God’s call to proclaim the Word through preaching while Tim, Larry's youngest, remains with the group. Larry now plays, sings, and writes for StateLine. Instilled in his heart from childhood is a burning love for church and songs of the Gospel but a personal "born again" experience is why it has continued to burn for so many years. "God uses the music to move me" says Larry. Sometimes he fights back the tears and sometimes the tears win out as a song touches his heart. "They’re good tears though." So not only does he feel the call to perform and minister through song but he is also a true Southern Gospel fan. Larry lives in the New Deal community of Cottontown, Tennessee with his wife, Lynn, who grew up in Indiana.

Alan Johnson (High Tenor Vocals)

Alan Johnson was born and raised in Alpharetta, Georgia. He grew up singing Gospel and Christian Contemporary music in his hometown church. His musical influences included Michael English, Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael W. Smith, 4 Him, and the Gaither Vocal Band. Alan began to hone his talent as a teenager and his love of harmony eventually lead him to earn a Commercial Music Degree from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. After college, Alan started a country band. The band enjoyed a great deal of success for the next five years affording him the opportunity to perform with Country Music acts including Vince Gill, Mark Wills, Rascal Flatts, and Joe Nichols. Eventually, though, Alan felt lead to return to his gospel roots and joined the Music City Boys in April of 2007. The New Year 2008 brought another move for Alan as he filled the tenor position of StateLine Quartet. Southern Gospel lovers will certainly recognize a winning combination in Alan Johnson. A rich and powerful high tenor voice, a love for harmony, and a great love for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ make up a sure recipe for success. Alan resides in Hendersonville, Tennessee with his wife Emily.

Tim Biggs (Baritone Vocals)

Timothy (Tim) Biggs grew up around Southern Gospel from as early in life as he can remember. Just as early in his Christian life he followed his Dad and older brothers on a journey that would lead him to being the Baritone voice for StateLine Quartet. Tim graduated from Portland High School where he played catcher for the varsity baseball team. At the same time he was allowing various talents to surface, both vocal and instrumental. After high school, he studied auto mechanics at Tennessee Technology Center. At the inception of NewHeart Family Gospel, Tim became the group’s audio tech, soon to play drums, and then to stand on stage with mic in hand. It’s been said that the Baritone adds "character" to the sound of a quartet. Tim has proven that to be true as well as being instrumental in building song arrangements with his keen and creative ear for harmony. While his two older brothers have been called from the group to carry the Word through preaching, Tim travels and sings with the group now known as StateLine Quartet as they endeavor to minister to God's family and pray that their songs may draw the lost to a saving knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. Tim is a born again Christian and an accomplished auto mechanic. He is single and lives in Gallatin, Tennessee.

James Cauley(Bass Vocals)

James CauleyJames Cauley was likely one of those frustrated teens who couldn’t whisper in class without being caught because of that deep, resonating voice. When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade….Right? Well fortunately for the Southern Gospel world, James decided to make music. He entered the quartet scene with a group of young men, none of whom were even old enough to drive. After graduating from Auburn High School in 1982 James was married and began a family. During his mid twenties he joined a popular Southern Gospel Group based in Franklin, Kentucky called Greater Desire. That’s when James’ and pianist Larry Biggs’ paths first crossed. After a few years with Greater Desire he came off the road and spent eight years as Music Minister for two Kentucky churches. In late October of 2006 James accepted the invitation to fill the Bass vocal position for StateLine Quartet. Besides being one of Southern Gospel’s finest, he is first and foremost a born again Christian with not only a song but a testimony and a heart for lost souls. When at home he enjoys cooking and computers. James lives in Russellville, Kentucky with his wife Charlotte.

Steven Biggs (Sound Technician)

Steven (Skeets) Biggs is a graduate of Portland High School where he excelled in Advanced Mechanics. Steve started playing bass guitar at about fourteen years old. He played for The Halltown Harmoneers, The New Sunshine Boys, and at it’s inception became bass guitarist for NewHeart Family Gospel which later became StateLine Quartet. Larry, Steve's older brother, remembers how Steve would work for hours to perfect some prank or booby-trap to scare his Mom or someone else. He always loved the challenge of figuring out complicated things. YOU GUESSED IT! He's the StateLine audio tech. He knows every button on the tree of electronics that surrounds him at our concerts. Steve is also the chief electrician of the group. He enjoys outdoor life…building, fishing and taking care of a huge lawn with his time at home. Steve lives in the New Deal community of Cottontown, Tennessee with his wife Kim who grew up in the Oak Grove community of Portland, Tennessee. They have two daughters, Amanda and Brooke.
